History

Much of the history of Wind and Tide is apparent in its current program and structure. The founding director Rachel Cram is the daughter of Early Childhood Educator Muriel Endersby (author of the reading programs Ready to Read and Fun Family Phonics). From the very start, Wind and Tide preschools embraced a philosophy of exceptional education coupled with loving family-like care. Our first preschool was a single, family run preschool, begun twenty five years ago in a sunny basement in White Rock, BC. Within five years, the demand for preschool prompted us to to open second and third schools in White Rock and South Surrey. Each school offered the same quality educational program provided by teachers who were trained first as assistants under Rachel who subsequently moved to supervisory roles.

Throughout the 1990's, Wind and Tide gradually expanded to open preschools throughout South Surrey, staffing our schools with educators trained and experienced in our program delivery. Our growth was intentionally paced by invitation; we only opened preschools when we were invited by parents in the community. We have never desired to expand quickly or beyond our reputation.

The paced philosophy of growth-by-reputation, guided our expansion in the first decade of the 2000's. Wind and Tide expanded into Langley, Surrey, Maple Ridge and Burnaby, gradually training staff in our programs and opening schools where parents were asking for excellent education and care.

Wind and Tide continues to grow organically and intentionally with the communities we serve. We are meeting the demand for early childhood education through preschool and full-time child care. Our growth into daycare is simply a natural extension of the skills and reputation that we have developed over the last twenty five years.

We look forward to growing, living and teaching together over the next twenty five years.
